Field Mouse and City Mouse 2024 Tale and Summary
Welcome to the story of the Field Mouse and the City Mouse. Once upon a time. In ancient times, in a small village, there was a field where all kinds of vegetables grew. A little mouse lived in this field. He built a small house in one corner of the field. It was fed with the vegetables grown in the field and the leftovers eaten by the people working in the field. All day long he roamed the field and made friends with other animals living in the field. He was quite happy with his life.
A field mouse had a mouse friend who lived in the city. One day this city mouse thought of his friend. Since he had not seen his friend the field mouse for a long time, he missed him very much. One day he set out to see him. When he reached the village, he saw a huge field.
As he walked through the field, he said, “Oh, how bad it smells here. And it’s so dark and deserted.” After a long walk, he found the house of the field mouse. He immediately knocked on the door. The field mouse opened the door and was surprised to see the city mouse. “Oh, is that you? What a nice surprise.
A city mouse hugging a field mouse tightly. “My friend, I haven’t seen you for years. You came to my mind recently. I missed you very much. That’s why I came out here.” He said. Hugging each other with longing, the mice went inside. They chatted for hours. The field mouse said, “My friend, you have come a long way. You must be hungry. Let’s have a nice meal, then I’ll take you for a walk.”
The field mouse put some grains of wheat, some barley, a carrot and a piece of cheese on the dining table. Seeing the food on the table, the city mouse couldn’t hide his surprise. “Oh, dear, oh, dear! What is this, my friend? Is this the kind of food you eat? This is how you get hungry, weak and sick. Where I live, there are cheeses, cakes, meats, all kinds of fruits, you name it.”
The field mouse didn’t pay much attention to what his friend said. “Let’s finish our meal, let’s go for a walk outside.” After eating their meal, they started walking in the field. The city mouse couldn’t stand it again. “My friend, it smells very bad here. It is both very dark and very desolate. Where I live, it smells fresh and clean.”
The field mouse didn’t pay much attention to what his friend said. When they got home, they chatted some more and went to sleep. When they woke up the next morning, the field mouse had prepared breakfast. He put some corn kernels, some cheese and lettuce on the table. The city mouse reluctantly ate the food on the table. It was time to say goodbye.
When the city mouse left home, he said, “I am waiting for you at my house next month, be sure to come.” A month passed. The field mouse decided to go to the city mouse’s house. After a long time, he reached the city. As he was walking through the streets of the city, he could not walk properly because of the cars passing in front of him. He was even almost hit by a car while crossing the road. Finally he came to the building where his friend lived.
When the city mouse saw the field mouse, he hugged him with joy. They immediately went inside. There was a small hole in the corner of a room. They went in through that hole. “This is where I live. As you can see, everything is spotless. I can go to the kitchen whenever I want and eat anything I want. You have come a long way. Let’s go to the kitchen and have something to eat.”
The city mouse opened the refrigerator in the kitchen and prepared a beautiful table with oils, honey, cheeses and meats. The field mouse was surprised to see all the food on the table. Just as they were about to sit down and start eating, the door of the house opened. The mice ran away in fear and came in through the hole. The field mouse asked, “What happened now, why did we run away?”
“The owner of the house is here, and if they see us in the kitchen, it won’t be good,” said the city mouse. Some time passed. The city mouse poked its head out of the hole and made a mess. It turned to the field mouse and said, “Let’s go into the kitchen, there is no one there.” The two mice came back to the kitchen. Before they could take a piece of food, they heard a meow.
The city mouse grabbed the field mouse’s arm and ran away. They went back into the hole and waited. The field mouse asked, “What happened again? Why are we hiding in the hole?” “Don’t ask, there is a cat in the house. That’s why we ran away, my friend. This cat doesn’t let me breathe. I can manage without him.” said the city mouse.
When the city mouse poked its head out of the hole and saw that the cat was not there, it said, “Let’s go out and continue our meal.” Then the field mouse said, “My friend, I will go home now. Maybe you can find more and tastier food here than in my house. But I would be happier to live in the field where I live without fear, freely, without hesitation and eat a morsel of wheat and a morsel of barley than to live in such fear.” And he set out to return to his field where he lived happily and peacefully as soon as possible.
The Field Mouse and the City Mouse Summary
Once upon a time, a field mouse living in a village led a simple and happy life. A city mouse living in the city comes to visit him. The city mouse doesn’t like the field mouse’s simple food and life and invites him to the city. When the field mouse goes to the city mouse’s house, he finds a table full of luxurious food. But just as they start to eat, the owner of the house arrives and the mice have to run away quickly. Then they hear the cat’s voice and run away again.
The field mouse does not like this life of constant fear and danger. “It is better to live in my own field, without fear and in peace, than to live here in luxury but with fear,” he tells the city mouse and returns to his village. As a result, after a brief visit to the city, the field mouse returns to his simple but safe life. The story gives us the message that a simple life is preferable to a luxurious life full of dangers.
This fable is synonymous with the saying “A little goes a long way” and tells us that a simple but safe life is preferable to a rich life full of risks.
